Daniel Diermeier

Daniel Diermeier, Vanderbilt’s ninth chancellor, is an internationally recognized political scientist, management scholar, and visionary leader. Since assuming the role in 2020, he has overseen record growth in research funding, endowment, and student opportunities, while launching initiatives such as Discovery Vanderbilt, the College of Connected Computing, and Nashville Vanderbilt Scholars. He has strengthened Vanderbilt’s commitment to civil discourse, global collaboration, and innovation, including partnerships with national security agencies and local civic institutions. A first-generation college graduate, Diermeier combines bold leadership with deep academic expertise, having previously held senior roles at Stanford, Northwestern, and the University of Chicago.
